MATERIALS

1 Ball each BERROCO PURE MERINO (50 grs), #8574 Chocolate (A) and #8542 Kale (B)

4 Set (4) double pointed knitting needles each, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

2 St holders

One 1/2” button

1 Safety pin for marker

Tapestry needle

GAUGE19 sts = 4”;  24 rows = 4” in St st with A or B on size 8 needles

RIGHT MITTEN

With smaller needles, using A, cast on 36 sts.  Join and mark for beg of rnd with pin.  Divide evenly on 3 needles and work even in k1, p1 ribbing for 2 3/4”.  Inc 12 st evenly spaced on next rnd – 48 sts.  Change to larger dpn’s and work even in ST st(k EVERY rnd) for 3 rnds.

Divide for Thumb Opening:  Next Rnd:  K48, do not join.  Turn and work back and forth in St st for 1 1/2”, end on WS  Change to B.  On next rnd, join and work around in St st for 1 1/4”.

1st Finger:  Next Rnd:  K6, sl next 18 sts onto first holder with opening of holder facing RH needle, sl next 18 sts onto second holder with holder facing in the opposite direction, k6 – 12 sts.  Join and mark for beg of rnd with pin.  Divide sts evenly onto 3 needles and work even in St st for 1”.  Bind off.

2nd Finger:  Next Rnd:  K6 from first holder, leave the next 24 sts on holders, sl 6 sts from second holder to dpn then k these 6 sts – 12 sts.  Finish same as 1st finger.

3rd and 4th Fingers:  Work same as 2nd finger.

Thumb:  With larger dpn’s, using A, beg at lower edge of thumb opening, pick up and k16 sts around entire thumb opening.  Join and mark for beg of rnd with pin.  Divide sts onto 3 needles and work even in St st for 1”.

Opening:  Next Rnd:  K11, bind off 3 sts, k to end.

Following Rnd:  Knit, cast on 3 sts over sts bound off on previous rnd.  Continue to work even in St st until thumb measures 2 1/4”.

Dec Rnd:  * K2 tog, rep from * around – 8 sts.  Break off yarn leaving an end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles.  Pull up tightly and secure.  Weave in end.

Mitten Flap:  With larger dpn’s, using A, cast on 48 sts.  Join and mark for beg of rnd with pin.  Divide sts onto 3 needles and work even in k1, p1 ribbing for 3 rnds.

Buttonhole Rnd:  Work in ribbing as established over 35 sts, yo, p2 tog, work in ribbing to end.  Continue to work in ribbing as established for 2 more rnds.  Change to B and work even in St st until piece measures 2 1/2” from beg.

Divide for Top:  Next Row:  K24 for back, sl remaining 24 sts onto holder for front.  From here, work back and forth with 2 needles.  Purl 1 row.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 22 sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 7 times more, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 8 sts.

Front:  With RS facing, sl 24 sts from holder onto larger needle and complete same as back.

FINISHING

Sew shaped sides and bound off sts at top of mitten flap tog.  Note:  When mitten is laid flat, the opening on thumb is on front of mitten.  Sew cast-on edge of mitten flap to back of mitten at base of fingers leaving front edge free.  When mitten flap is over fingers, buttonhole should be in the center of mitten front.  Sew button to mitten under buttonhole.

LEFT MITTEN

Work mitten same as right mitten.

Thumb:  Work same as right thumb for 1”.

Opening:  Next Rnd:  K2, bind off 3 sts, k to end.

Following Rnd:  Knit, cast on 3 sts over sts bound off on previous rnd.  Complete same as right thumb.  Work mitten flap same as right mitten flap.  When sewing on mitten flap, make sure that buttonhole is on the same side as thumb opening.

SWEATER

BACK

With straight needles, cast on 40(44-48) sts.  Work even in Garter St (K every row) for 5(5 1/2-6)”.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes.  Work even until armholes measure 4(4 1/2-5)”.  Bind off.

LEFT FRONT

With straight needles, cast on 32(36-40) sts.  Work even in Garter St for 5(5 1/2-6)”.  Mark end of last row for beg of armhole.  Work even until armhole measures 1(1 1/2-2)”, end on WS with armhole marker to your left.

Shape Neck:  Bind off 7(8-9) sts, k to end.  Dec 1 st 1 st in from same edge EVERY row 6(10-14) times, then every other row 7(5-3) times – 12(13-14) sts.  Work even until armhole measures 4(4 1/2-5)”.  Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT

Work to correspond to left front marking beg of last row.  Reverse placement of neck shaping.

SLEEVES

With straight needles, cast on 24(25-26) sts.  Work even in Garter St for 1/2”.  Inc 1 st each end of next row, then every 1 1/2(1 1/2-1)” 3(4-6) times – 32(35-40) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 6(7-8)” from beg.  Bind off.

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams.  Sew on sleeves between markers.  Sew side and sleeve seams.  Lap right front over left front.  Sew one half of first snap to WS of right front edge just below beg of neck shaping.  Sew one half of second snap to WS of right front edge 3” up from lower edge.  Sew the other half of both snaps to RS of left front to correspond with those on right front.

Bows (Make 2):  With crochet hook, ch 3.  Make a bobble as follows:  (yo, draw up a loop in 3rd ch from hook) 4 times, yo and draw through all loops on hook.  Chain for 6 1/2”, then ch 3 and turn.  Make another bobble.  Fasten off.  Tie each chain in a bow and sew to RS of right front over snaps.

BLANKET

 

With circular needle, cast on 138 sts.  DO NOT join.

Rows 1, 3, 5 and 7 (RS):  P6, * k2, p2, k2, p6, rep from * across.

Row 2 and all WS rows:  K the k sts and p the p sts as they face you.

Rows 9, 11, 13 and 15 (RS):  K6, * p2, k2, p2, k6, rep from * across.

Row 10: Rep Row 2.  Rep these 16 rows 10 times more, end on WS.  Bind off.

FINISHING

* With RS facing, using circular needle, pick up and k127 sts along one edge of blanket.  Work in Garter St until band measures 3”, increasing 1 st each end EVERY row.  Bind off.  Repeat from * along each edge of blanket making sure to work the same number of rows on each edge.  Sew mitered corners tog.
