The Great Knitted Pumpkin Pattern

Note : The pumpkin patch in the foreground is done with a variety of yarns. Suggested yarns are Brown Sheep Burly Spun, Manos, Muench Blackforest Naturwolle. The pattern below is for the Brown Sheep Burly Pumpkin which is the big pumpkin in the picture. The other pumpkins use the same pattern but with different yarns and smaller 16" circular needles.

Materials- 1 skein Burly Spun, Orange You Glad #110, 1 skein Christmas Green,# 165 for stem

#13 needles, 16" circular, #13 Double Point Needles (DPN)

Tapestry Needle, Fiberfill

For smaller pumpkins - Naturwolle uses a #13 needle, Manos, a #9 follow same directions

With circular needles, cast on 40 stitches, leaving an 18" tail, join, careful not to twist stitches.

(K3, P2) 8 times, 2 rounds.

(K1, M1, K2, P2) 8 times, 1 round (48 stitches)

(K4, P2) 8 times, 2 rounds

(K2, M1, K2, P2) 8 times, 1 round. (56 stitches)

(K5, P2) 8 times, 20 rounds. (30 rounds for a larger pumpkin)

Decrease section- Go to DPN when necessary

(SSK, K1, K2tog, P2) 8 times, 1 round (40 sts)

(K3, P2) 8 times, 2 rounds

(Slip 1, K2tog, P2) 8 times, 1 round (24 stitches)

(K1, P2tog) 8 times, 1 round (16 stitches)

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw through remaining stitches. Pull up tight and secure.

With the fiber fill, stuff the pumpkin through the hole to desired fullness. Thread the needle with the cast on tail . Weave through approx. every other cast-on loop and draw up as tightly as possible securing the end. Cover the hole with the I- CORD stem- see below

I CORD Stem

1 skein contrasting color, Green or Brown

With your DPN, cast on 6 stitches. Knit about 5" in I-Cord, bind off leaving 18" tail. Use the tail to sew the stme to the pumpkin, covering the hole.
